Fast, reliable, internal visual inspection is an irreplaceable quality assurance procedure for manufacturers of missioncritical parts and assemblies from fuel and hydraulics systems to vital medical parts. The process starts with selecting the right borescope for the specific inspections you need to conduct. Diameter is a key factor, as is the selection of rigid, flexible, and/or video borescopes. The following will start you in the right direction. PART 1: CHOOSING A BORESCOPE In 1995, Gradient Lens Corporation made only one borescope model. Today, we now offer more than 70 rigid, flexible and video Hawkeye® borescopes, and a complete line of lighting and accessories. RIGID BORESCOPES Rigid Borescopes have superior sharpness and detail because they use traditional glass optics. Choose a Rigid Borescope when the entry path is straight. Rigids have better image quality, and are more durable and less expensive, than flexible scopes. Hawkeye®Classic and Pro Rigid Borescopes have DOV’s of 0°, 30°, and 90°. Hawkeye®Blue Rigid Borescopes offer a wider selection of DOV’s and lengths. FLEXIBLE FIBER OPTIC BORESCOPES Flexible Borescopes use optical glass fibers to relay the image. Resolution depends on the number of fibers and their diameter. Each fiber forms a pixel in the final image. When your entry path is curved, you’ll need a Hawkeye®Classic, Pro, or Blue Flexible Borescope. With 0-, 2-, or 4-way articulation, up to 25,000 pixel image resolution, and flexible, durable, tungsten sheathing, Hawkeye®Flexible Borescopes are the finest fiber scopes on the market. PORTABLE VIDEO BORESCOPES For go-anywhere portability, live on-screen viewing, and photo and video image capture, select a Hawkeye®Pro or Classic Flexible Video Borescope. These high quality, affordably priced video borescopes deliver crystal clear images and are completely portable. Hawkeye®Flexible Video Borescopes come complete with video monitor, LED light source, and image capture capability, all in one, easy-to-use device. BENCHTOP VIDEO SYSTEMS Connect any Hawkeye® Rigid or Flexible Borescope to a video camera and display the image on a computer or video monitor. Store, document and e-mail images as well. For repetitive inspection of parts, you can also add a Hawkeye®Video Slide to hold the part, and borescope, in a fixed but movable position during inspection. PART 2: BORESCOPE APPLICATIONS METAL MACHINING & EDM Metal machinists can inspect for burrs, defects, surface finish irregularities, and more, even inside deep or narrow bores. WELDING The quality and integrity of any weld, even in long tubes or complex parts, can be quickly evaluated. CASTING Quickly check for voids, sand and other defects even inside complex castings.
