AFE July/August 2012 : Page 27Where Life Continues dress emerging needs and trends, AFE’s certifi cation review programs are already available online. Th e association’s popular live webinars are archived at www.AFE. org where members can view them to earn continuing education units (CEU) to renew their certifi cation. All of this makes AFE more accessible and provides more added value for international members. AFE’s International Region 7 is integral to managing the association’s global expan-sion. Region 7 Vice President Michael Abboud explained the early challenges of managing growth. “It’s impossible to form chapters when in some instances there are only a handful of members within a coun-try. Our role is to provide a structure that still makes even those in the most remote locations feel included and able to partici-pate in AFE off erings.” With a consider-able number of global connections, AFE’s LinkedIn group is a prime example of the international interest in the association. Region 7, working closely with AFE’s Board Chair and Board of Directors, is the conduit between AFE and its global audience. Abboud shared, “In order to be eff ective in delivering essential benefi ts, we have to have a pulse on facilities professionals beyond our continental borders.” AFE members and certifi ed professionals represent locations including South Korea, Malaysia, Manila, Spain, Abu Dhabi, Lagos, Japan, São Paulo (to name a few) and over 200 locations around the world represented by facilities engineers employed by the United States Department of State. Abboud and Region 7 volunteers are working to ensure that their needs are represented in AFE’s Global Agenda. Services, Inc., expanded its work to include the funding of AFE’s Fort Bragg Initiative. In July 2012, AFE offi cially launched a partnership with the Army Career and Alumni Program at Fort Bragg, NC, and our Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) partner to provide the CPMM Review Course and Exam for military per-sonnel who are transitioning into the civilian workforce. Initially, this exclusive AFE train-ing program is being off ered to 120 soldiers within the Army’s Career Alumni Program. AFE, thanks to a generous sponsorship from EMCOR Government Services, Inc., is able to provide this preparation free of charge to soldiers returning from overseas duty, along with recent veterans. To further support their career transition, AFE will include each participant in its online job board following certifi cation. Th is is an excellent opportunity for corporations that service federal govern-ment buildings to recruit trained personnel with the required skills and experience. Th rough certifi cation and membership benefi ts, AFE endeavors to provide the much-needed support to help our es-teemed service men and women integrate into civilian life. “A National Treasure” − Joint Commission − Calvary Hospital, founded in 1899, is the nation’s only hospital dedicated to the acute palliative care of advance cancer and other terminally ill patients.
