SAYA, SR., CPE Our AFE Certifi ed Plant Maintenance Man-ager (CPMM) training initiative at Fort Bragg in North Carolina is off to a great start. Th is AFE partnership with the Army Career Alumni Program at Fort Bragg and Fayetteville Technical Com-munity College provides CPMM training and certifi cation to soldiers and veterans transitioning from Army careers into the civilian workforce. By all accounts, our initial program this past July and August succeeded beyond our expectations. EM-COR Government Services in Arlington, Va., sponsored Fort Bragg’s initial class of students and has committed to supporting future classes. When I approached Michael Rodgers, senior vice president of EMCOR, regarding this AFE initiative, Rodgers agreed without hesitation to support it. As these classes progress in the months ahead, AFE will share with our members the growing list of sponsors engaged in this important initiative. Finally, as part of AFE’s 2012 Global Initiative, AFE’s Vice Chair for Finance Steve Sakach, Executive Director Wayne Carley and I visited with AFE partner, the Korea Institute of Plant Engineering and Construction (KIPEC) in Seoul, South Korea. Our hosts, Dr. Jae-Heon Lee, president of KIPEC, and KIPEC vice president Dr. Edward J. Jeong, introduced our entourage to some of the most interesting professional engineers I have met in quite a while. Presently, we are in discussion with KIPEC about expanding our partnership to add AFE’s CPMM certifi cation to their current CPE (Certifi ed Professional Engineering) program. Th ose who listened to our delegation talk about the benefi ts of AFE’s professional devel-opment programs included E. S. Park, senior executive vice president and head of the Plant Group for Samsung C&T Corporation, along with his colleagues Dr. Seokho Yi, executive vice president of the Plant Engineering Center of Samsung C&T’s Engineering and Construction Group and JoonTae Kim, executive vice president of the Power Marketing Business Group. An interesting side note: Samsung C&T was the primary contractor for the tallest build-ing in the world, the $1.5 billion Burj Khalifa in Dubai,United Arab Emirates (UAE). Our Global Initiative is scheduled to continue in Dubai, UAE next year, so please stay tuned for exciting news from the facilities professional’s one-stop support partner, your AFE.
