Behind the Scenes If you could peek behind the scenes, you would find our LinkedIn Group Manager Mark W. Clark, CPMM, supporting the daily operations of our 4,500+ member group. Clark took over this role in February 2013. After 12 years of active duty military service in the U.S. Navy’s submarine fleet, Clark has held full-time and consultant positions within the facilities management and environmental health and safety fields. Clark has been an AFE member since 2003, joining Chapter 37 located in northern Massachusetts. In 2007, he was invited to become a chapter director and has remained active as Chapter 37 merged into Chapter 33 (serving the greater Boston area) earlier this year. Clark earned his CPMM designation in May 2010. Since 1996, Clark’s employment has included management positions at Altus Pharmaceuticals, Amgen, CombinatoRx, Merrimack Pharmaceuticals, Millipore Corporation and Vertex Pharmaceuticals. During the last 15 years, Clark’s experience has focused on the design, construction, relocation, and startup and operation of R&D laboratories. In 2007, Clark founded his own consulting service, aptly named Clark’s Consulting Services, which provides a variety of owner’s rep services to biotechnology, pharmaceutical and nanotechnology companies. Three years later, Clark partnered with a biotechnology finance veteran to form BioPharma Management Systems, which provides assistance to biopharmaceutical clients with on-demand services tailored to their specific needs. AFE and Clark Team Up on LinkedIn Clark signed up for LinkedIn during its inaugural year (2004) and became a selfdescribed “serious business networker” three years later, when he formed his first biopharmaceutical consulting company. AFE first became aware of Clark’s LinkedIn expertise during a 2011 presentation at an AFE regional meeting. A few months later, Clark was a guest speaker at an AFE chapter meeting and met with members of the AFE national board, who were impressed with his business acumen and online skills, and believed he was a perfect match for taking on the role of AFE’s LinkedIn group manager. “With Clark at the helm, AFE and social networking opportunities have never been stronger,” said Wayne P. Saya, CPE, CPMM, AFE executive director.
