MwDA sets dates for two events The Midwest Distributors Association has set dates for two events later this year. MwDA’s 9th annual Fall Classic Golf Tournament will be held at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wis. Visit the MwDA’s website at www.mwda.net for registration information. MwDA represents Region 2 of the American Supply Association. Morrison Supply acquires Norman Plumbing Supply Ft. Worth, Texas-based Morrison Supply recently announced the acquisition of Oklahoma City area-based Norman Plumbing Supply. The acquisition includes former Norman locations in Oklahoma City, Shawnee, South Oklahoma City and North Oklahoma City. Greg Barrow is the manager of the Oklahoma City location, which becomes Morrison’s primary branch in the market. Eric Maars is managing the Shawnee location, while Randy Preble is the manager at South Oklahoma City. James Hembree is the manager at the North Oklahoma City branch. Morrison’s branch on Exchange Ave., in Oklahoma City has been renamed Oklahoma City HVAC and the company’s new oil and gas business will operate out of that location under the direction of manager Jimmy Belt. “We are excited about expanding our presence in the metro Oklahoma City market. Joining forces with Norman Supply will provide all associates with unlimited opportunities moving forward,” Morrison Supply President Stan Allen said. “Together, we will continue to provide our customers with superior service, high fill rates and accessibility from our many locations. We are excited to now have a complete product offering in the Oklahoma City market – plumbing (commercial and residential), HVAC, PVF, oil and gas, showrooms and waterworks.” In other Morrison Supply news, Ron Bohannon joins the company as vice president after two decades-plus at WinWholesale. Brad Marsh joins the company in the newly created role of manager of transportation. Terry Krivan moves into a new position in branch ops/support at Morrison’s Ft. Worth headquarters, while Robert Kleinkauf is the new Dallas-Ft. Worth HVAC regional manager and also assumes branch manager duties at Morrison Ft. Worth HVAC. Shawn Claybaugh is the new branch manager of the Morrison Carrollton HVAC location. Ferguson breaks ground on new Ohio distribution center Ferguson recently broke ground on a 400,000-sq.-ft. distribution center in Celina, Ohio. The company will create 70 new full-time jobs at the 77-acre site, which is scheduled to open in late fall. Ferguson chose Celina, located in Mercer County a little more than an hour north of Dayton, Ohio, because of its close proximity to other Ferguson Midwest locations. “Our distribution centers are the heart of our supply chain,” Ferguson Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Al Byrd said. “The Celina DC will allow us to get the products customers need quickly, even the next day. We are excited to grow our infrastructure in the Midwest and better serve our customers while also providing new jobs in the region.” Ferguson currently has 11 distribution centers in the U.S. and Canada. Audubon Plumbing Supply reaches 100th anniversary Still based in its original Audubon, N.J., location, Audubon Plumbing Supply took to the USS New Jersey in June to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Fourth-generation owner and Secretary/ Treasurer Matt Knoettner hosted the company’s 11 employees, friends, family, vendors and valued customers to celebrate. Knoettner’s father, George, and his uncle, Harry, both retired from the company, set off five canon rounds (blanks, not live ammunition) from the 5-in. Canons on board. “It was a wonderful night,” Knoettner told Supply House Times. “I just wanted to have a nice party to celebrate.” Audubon Plumbing Supply, which features a second location in Mantua,N. J., started in 1913 and during the Great Depression evolved into a traditional supply house. Over time, the company added HVAC distribution to its portfolio. HVAC sales now make up 75% of Audubon’s total sales. HD Supply announces IPO HD Supply officially announced it has started an initial public offering of more than 53 million shares of common stock. HD Supply expects to grant the underwriters a 30-day option to buy up to an additional 7.9 million shares of common stock. The IPO’s price is expected to be between $22- $25 per share and HD Supply intends to use the net proceeds to redeem, repurchase, acquire or retire all $950 million of the outstanding 10.5% Senior Subordinated Notes due in 2021 and a portion of the outstanding 11.5% Senior Notes due in 2020. In other HD Supply news, the company reported $2.1 billion in sales – a 12.6% or $232 million increase compared to the first quarter of 2012. The company’s gross profits increased 14.3% (or $75 million) to $598 million. “The fiscal 2013 first quarter was yet a further continuation of our strong performance as we continue to benefit from growth in our businesses and strengthening market conditions,” HD Supply CEO Joe DeAngelo said.“We’re pleased with the first-quarter results, marking our 12th consecutive quarter of year-over-year sales growth.” Forte Buying Group holds summer meeting in Chicago Nearly 60 members of the Forte Buying Group assembled July 17-18 at the Westin O’Hare Hotel in Rosemont, Ill., for its annual summer meeting. The group held peer-to-peer roundtables, workshops and meetings. Among the highlights from the two-day gathering was the Retailer Web Services user group meeting where Forte members learned about added values coming to the RWS program. RWS assists Forte members with website sales and search engine optimization. Forte Buying Group Executive Director Tom Cohn noted the working relationship between the buying group and RWS has been fruitful. He expects to see more members utilizing RWS’ services in the near future. “One of our shareholders told me he used to get one inquiry a week and now he’s getting three per day,” he said. “Those inquiries are coming from actual consumers asking about information on products X, Y and Z. That in turn is increasing sales. Once that message starts to spread and people see the search engine optimization results, such as showing up on the first page of Google searches, we expect to see a greatly expanded participation in the Forte-RWS partnership.” Forte’s 2014 conference is scheduled for Feb. 20-23 at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Miami.
