Collins Pipe & Supply acquires Apex Remington Pa. Location East Windsor, Conn.-based Collins Pipe & Supply recently acquired the assets and staff of the Apex Remington Pipe & Supply location in Marcus Hook, Pa. The acquisition expands Collins Pipe & Supply’s distribution and engineering services into the largest industrial marketplace in the Mid-Atlantic region. “Apex Remington has a very strong position in the carbon-steel pipe market and that’s an area we needed to garnish more strength in. This will help all our operations,” Collins Pipe & Supply President Brian Tuohey told Supply House Times. “The oil and gas market is very active right now and the refinery market around that location is very active and all indications are it will be tremendously active for the next 20 years or so. We needed to get a foothold into that market and this operation provided that for us. “Their particular strength is in the refinery area, which has experienced a dramatic recovery with the U.S. changing hats from an importer to an exporter in that marketplace. There is a tremendous amount of activity in deep-water ports. The big tankers can come in there and that’s a big reason why there is that resurgence. Apex Remington has a large following in the greater Philadelphia marketplace, which is vibrant. There is a lot going on there.” Tuohey said nine Apex Remington employees will remain at the location. “They have been in the business a long time and the majority of them worked for Bear Tubular, which is the original company. They have a tremendous amount of experience. The folks coming onto the team came from an independent privately owned company. That’s what Collins is. It’s a very good fit from a culture and attitude standpoint.” The Apex Remington acquisition is Collins’ second in the last year. It acquired Syracuse, N.Y.-based Burns Cascade about a year ago. “That really solidified our position in upstate New York,” Tuohey said of the Burns Cascade move. “We opened two other locations in Portland and Bangor, Maine three years ago, so we’ve rounded out our coverage in New England and upstate New York. Apex Remington is our first foray into the Mid-Atlantic states. They also reach back into New England and New York, which is where we have a fairly strong presence.” Tuohey said Collins’ growth in recent years has been “tremendous.” “We’ve grown about 400% in the last seven years,” he added. “We’re a different company. This acquisition will add another 20% to last year’s total just based on the business they do now. We’re still hoping to expand beyond this. It’s an exciting time to be at Collins Pipe & Supply.” VJ Jacono Jr., the manager of the Apex Remington location in Marcus Hook, termed the deal a win-win for both companies. “Collins was a natural fit because the acquisition enables both companies to grow and expand with additional product strength into new geographic regions,” he said in a news release. “It is truly one of those extremely rare occurrences where one and one actually makes three.” – Mike Miazga Merfish Pipe & Supply acquires BBL’s assets Houston-based PVF distributor Merfish Pipe & Supply recently announced the purchase of the assets of Pennsylvania-based distributor BBL.
