Affiliated Distributors achieves record sales Wayne-Pa.-based Affiliated Distributors reported record sales in 2013 of $28 billion. AD's members across all the buying group's divisions grew 4% in 2013. By division, AD member sales grew as follows: Electrical up 3.5%; Industrial up 2%; Plumbing/PVF up 4%; HVAC up 10%; and Building Materials up 20%. Member growth with AD's supplier partners was more than double AD member total purchase growth. Net distributions to AD members grew 13%. AD members hired 1,618 new employees, opened more than 100 new locations and made 37 acquisitions. "2013 was the 26th year out of the last 30 where AD members achieved doubledigit growth with AD suppliers," AD Chairman and CEO Bill Weisberg stated. "Our team is laser-focused on our mission and is bullish about 2014." MSC Holdings acquires Wholesale Specialties MSC Holdings, the parent company to Morrison Supply Co., Express Pipe & Supply and Farnsworth Wholesale Co., recently announced it has acquired the assets of Denver-based Wholesale Specialties. As one of the largest plumbing-supply businesses in the Denver and surrounding markets, Wholesale Specialties will continue to operate under its existing management (Ron, Sandy, Bobby and Bryan Schiff) and brand name. "We look forward to growing our presence in Colorado through the leadership of Wholesale Specialties," MSC Holdings CEO Chip Hornsby said. Southern Pipe & Supply joins Affiliated Distributors Meridian, Miss.-based Southern Pipe & Supply Co., the 2013 Supply House Times Supply House of the Year, recently announced it has joined the Affiliated Distributors buying group. AD includes 620 members operating more than 3,600 locations worldwide with combined annual sales in excess of $28 billion. "Affiliated Distributors offers Southern Pipe valuable support and in-depth resources that will help us accelerate our growth and leverage our buying power. We'll also benefit from AD's support in data collection, report tracking, training, marketing and advertising, and problemsolving," Southern Pipe & Supply President Jay Davidson said. Southern Pipe & Supply operates 96 locations in seven states serving residential and commercial plumbing, HVAC and waterworks customers. Ferguson acquires Karl's Appliance Ferguson recently announced it has acquired New Jersey-based Karl's Sales and Service Co. (Karl's Appliance) in an asset transaction completed in late January. Karl's Appliance was founded in 1941 and is one of the 30 largest appliance dealers in the country. With six showrooms in northern New Jersey, it is the largest premium appliance resource in the area. Post-acquisition, the company will operate as Karl's Appliance, a Ferguson enterprise. Ferguson plans to expand Karl's Appliance's products offering to include plumbing and lighting, transforming the showrooms into a one-stop shop for both professional trade customers and homeowners. WinWholesale opens Tulsa WinAir location WinWholesale recently opened Tulsa (Okla.) Winair to provide heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment and supplies to contractors in a 50-mile radius of the Tulsa metropolitan area. WinWholesale is the majority shareholder in the new company. "Our approach to business is simple; we take care of our customers," Tulsa Winair President Jared (JJ) Pond said. "They are the only reason we are here."
