Hornsby added in a company press release: "Bringing Murray Supply into the MORSCO family is a significant milestone in the growth of our company as it is the first acquisition we have made in the attractive Southeast region. MORSCO has historically focused on building its business in the Southwest, specifically Texas. We are now ready to begin to move east and we are confident Murray Supply provides an excellent base to begin our eastward expansion." Murray Supply CEO Charlie Murray called the partnership with MORSCO a great cultural fit. "It is in recognition of the strength of our company and the quality of our people that MORSCO is willing to invest in us as its first platform company in this area," he said. "With the backing of MORSCO we are excited to enhance our capabilities, bring new opportunities to our people, and even greater service and products to our customers. Our missions and goals for the future are in alignment." Hornsby told Supply House Times MORSCO is in an expansion mode, but is focusing those efforts on the Sun Belt region. "We are actively involved and certainly willing to talk to various businesses, particularly ones we consider as platform locations like Murray that will help us with a very attractive starting point in a particular geography," he said. "Right now we are looking into the Sun Belt. We feel that's where the biggest part of growth opportunities are - particularly with the demographics and the migration of people south." DARLINGTON DELIVERS KEYNOTE AT NKBA CHAPTER MEETING Longtime Supply House Times columnist and National Kitchen and Bath Association Hall of Famer Hank Darlington was the keynote speaker at NKBA's recent Chicago Mid West chapter meeting hosted by Buffalo Grove, Ill.-based Banner Plumbing Supply. Darlington talked to an overflow audience about the importance of proper selling skills. "Sales fuel every business I know of," he said. "You can sell volume and you can make money and have fun while doing it. Sales are the fuel that drives the business engine. If you have no sales, you have no business. The basics of selling have not changed. It's everybody's responsibility to help your customers become better. Make teaching and learning sales skills a priority." Darlington said emphasizing value points is critical for a salesperson. "Learn how to toot your own horn without blowing it," he said. "Every time you throw out a value point, you are making the Internet and the competitor down the street less important. And every time you add value, you make price less important." Gross profit margin, a staple in Darlington's teachings over the years, also was a key talking point. "Sales are important, but gross profit margin is just as important," he said. "Go home and raise your margins 1%. Make an improved gross profit margin a priority." -Mike Miazga FERGUSON FIRE & FABRICATION ACQUIRES ALABAMA-BASED CENTRAL PIPE & SUPPLY Ferguson Fire & Fabrication recently acquired Central Pipe & Supply's Mobile, Ala., business in an asset transaction.
