American Standard Water Heaters appoints Canaan Lawrence as president With the appointment of Canaan Lawrence as president, American Standard Water Heaters looks to take its United States business to the next level. Lawrence, a 17-year veteran in the construction and home Improvement industry, has been instrumental in transforming companies and business units, most recently at NIBCO, Westinghouse and Ace Hardware Corp. During his career, Lawrence has a record of taking underperforming business units and producing extraordinary results, delivering sustainable revenue and profit growth across multiple channels including wholesale, retail, industrial, OEM, specialty and MRO segments. Lawrence states his history and record of building world-class sales and marketing teams is the key to his ongoing success. “A company’s best asset is its people,” he says. “Like any championship team, you must have diverse talent and the ability to win across all facets of your business. American Standard is one of the top-recognized plumbing brands in the world. This brand, coupled with our outstanding organizational talent and the 80-year impressive history of manufacturing by our parent company, GIS, delivers a recipe for success.” GIS (Grupo Industrial Saltillo) is a publically traded Mexican company that owns a majority market share in Mexico in the water heater segment under the Calorex brand. In addition, GIS manufactures automotive parts, Vitromex ceramic and porcelain tile, and houseware products. The company, which manufactures in Saltillo, Mexico, with world headquarters in Mexico City, is a market leader in each of the segments it specializes in. GIS acquired the American Standard Water heater business more than 10 years ago to help increase its share in the U.S. market. Lawrence’s vision is clear. “To rival the top water heater manufacturers in the U.S. by providing industry-leading service, quality and innovative products to every segment we service,” he says. “While we are experiencing exponential growth, we are taking great care to keep these core pillars in place.” By offering the industry benchmark in quality in the residential and commercial water heater segment, coupled with world-class service, American Standard Water Heaters is poised to continue its U.S. expansion. American Standard also looks to launch several new innovative products in 2016. Lawrence explains as of press time it was in the process of moving its U.S. headquarters to St. Joseph, Mich. The new central U.S. office that will house the company’s executive leadership team was slated to open Nov. 1. The Michigan office also includes a new training innovation center for use by customers, contractors and the American Standard Water Heaters sales team. “It aligns with our expansion strategy and allows us easy access to all our customers across the United States,” says Lawrence, who adds American Standard plans on keeping its West Coast distribution center intact. With its new leadership in place and a renewed laser focus on its core competencies of service, quality and innovation, American Standard looks to continue its path as an emerging force in the U.S. water heater industry.
