FERGUSON ANNOUNCES FAVORABLE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT WITH LOCKWOOD INTERNATIONAL Ferguson Enterprises recently reached a settlement agreement with Lockwood International and several former Ferguson employees. Under terms of the agreement, Lockwood and certain former Ferguson employees settled legal proceedings brought by Ferguson and agreed to significant obligations and non-solicitation restrictions, as well as a multimillion-dollar payment to Ferguson. Ferguson added that Lockwood and the former employees also agreed to return or destroy all confidential information and material improperly taken from Ferguson. Additionally, a forensic examiner also will wipe from Lockwood's computer systems any Ferguson information obtained from the former Ferguson employees, the Newport News, Va.-based distributor announced. Lockwood International is an industrial PVF distributor headquartered in Houston. "We welcome fair and active competition, and are pleased to have settled the matter with Lockwood on terms favorable to Ferguson," a Ferguson spokesperson told Supply House Times. MORRISON SUPPLY OPENS NEW TEXAS BRANCH Morrison Supply Co., recently hosted a grandopening event at its new Friendswood, Texas, location at 14500 Beamer Rd. Designed by Dan Rucker of Coastal Bend Property Development, the new facility features a standalone waterworks division, leaving behind the plumbing and PVF inventory at Morrison's Houston location. During the grand opening, the store hosted a fish fry, serving more than 400 fish filets for guests and associates to enjoy and gave away about $5,000 in raffle prizes. Several contests also took place. The new location boasts a large inventory of Kennedy valves and hydrants, concrete structures and reinforced concrete pipe, mechanical joint fittings, water pipe, sewer pipe, copper, A.Y. McDonald waterworks brass and PVC fittings. ASA DISTRIBUTOR MEMBERS REPORT FLAT APRIL Member respondents to ASA's Monthly Pulse Report reported essentially flat sales growth for the month ending April 30 vs. 2015. The median was 0.1%. For the calendar year-to-date, respondents reported a median sales growth of 6.2%. Respondents reported a median increase in sales of 3.9% for the trailing 12 months ending April 30. Inventory rose 3.0% for April 2016 compared to 2015. The median three-month average days sales outstanding dropped to 43.3 in April. Nearly 54% of participants reported an increase in gross margin percentages for April 2016 vs. 2015. Company YTD profit before tax increased for 52% of respondents and 55% reported having more full-time-equivalent employees comparted to a year ago. BEST PLUMBING SUPPLY OPENS NEW SUPPLY STOP LOCATION New York-based and family-owned Best Plumbing Supply has opened its second Supply Stop location in Westchester County, N.Y. This location is in addition to the Supply Stop located in Yorktown, both of which are supported by the company's main supply house in Somers. The new location at 8 Westchester Plaza in Elmsford opened in early May. Best Plumbing Supply opened its first location in Mohegan Lake, N.Y., in 1960 and moved to Yorktown in 1987. In 2007 Best opened a 137,000-sq.-ft. headquarters in Somers, which houses its corporate offices, expansive warehouse and a 7,000-sq.-ft. showroom. Best relocated its Yorktown location across the street in 2014. MID-CITY SUPPLY ANNOUNCES NUMEROUS PERSONNEL CHANGES Elkhart, Ind.-based Mid-City Supply recently announced a number of personnel changes. Mid-City noted the changes were made to prepare for the continued future growth of the company. Recent changes include the promotion of Jeff Stevens to senior vice president of business development. Dan New assumes the role of vice president of administration and operations. Mike Lambert has been promoted to sales manager, while Jordan New was promoted to marketing manager. Luke Hostetler has been assigned to the position of director of HVAC programs and training, while Joe Velleman was promoted to HVAC product manager. Andrew Ballentine was hired as HVAC product specialist. Dave Petroelje was hired as hydronics product specialist, while Dawn Hite was hired as human resource manager. APR SUPPLY RELOCATES BRANCH APR Supply Co., announced plans to relocate its Harrisburg, Pa., branch at 1851 UPS Dr., to a joint branch location with Schaedler Yesco Distribution at 3982 Paxton St., in Harrisburg. The new branch will provide capacity for increased inventory and improved logistics, APR Supply noted. The building features a large, modern sales area to service local HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors that is convenient to all major highways in the area and represents the 15th joint venture location with partner Schaedler Yesco. APR Supply said it will double down on its commitment to customers in Harrisburg and the surrounding area with a new West Shore location at 207 Lynndale Ct., in Mechanicsburg, Pa, opening in July. Oasis Showrooms, the kitchen, bath and age-in-place division of APR, will relocate from UPS Dr. to this location with a completely new showroom facility, APR stated. Schaedler Yesco plans to join APR at the West Shore location in 2017. NIBCO'S MARTIN EARNS PROMOTION NIBCO recently promoted Ashley Martin to vice president, wholesale sales, reporting to Steve Malm, president and COO. Martin began her career at NIBCO in 2012 as a sales trainee in the Human Resources Sales Training Program where she won the sales trainee of the year award. Since 2012, she has held the positions of director, distribution and transportation, and general manager, PEX, before being promoted to her current role. Martin co-founded ASA's Women in Industry group and is the incoming Women in Industry chairwoman, serving a two-year term. She also serves on the ASA Young Executives board and is a member of the Plastic Pipe Fittings Association. OBITUARY JOSEPH S. DESANTIS Joseph S. DeSantis, a longtime employee of American Standard, died April 19 near upper St. Clair, Pa. DeSantis enjoyed a long career with American Standard, traveling extensively and retiring as vice president of sales. LIBERTY PUMPS HOSTS OPEN HOUSE Liberty Pumps hosted an open house April 27 to celebrate its building expansion in Bergen, N.Y. An estimated 700 employees, family members and other local residents attended the event, toured the facility and watched product demonstrations. The building addition broke ground in 2014 and increases manufacturing and warehouse space by 81,600 sq. ft. It expands the engineering area used to develop and test new pumps by another 14,200 sq. ft., which will allow more space for equipment required for the company's qualification as a CSA test facility. A noteworthy feature in the lab is a 20,000-gal. Test pit, which resembles a lap pool but in fact supports the company's expanding product line. An additional 23,000 sq. ft. Houses a training center with a hands-on product demonstration area, sales and marketing offices, a historical display, a shop for Liberty Pumps' gear and a multipurpose room with 80 seats. In all, the construction project adds more than 123,000 sq. ft. Bob Miodonski BUYING GROUP BRIEFS o WIT announced Miami-based AM Distributors is the newest owner in the buying group. AM Distributors is led by Principal and President Arial Morales, a 20-year veteran of the HVAC industry in South Florida. AM Distributors offers a full line of HVAC products to both the residential and commercial markets. O Omni will hold its 2017 meeting Jan. 29-31 at the Hyatt Grand on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. Luxury Products Group precedes it Jan. 25-27. AD MEMBER SALES UP 9% The Wayne, Pa.-based AD buying group reported sales for all members across all seven divisions and three countries grew by 9% in 2016 Q1 YTD to a record $8.7 billion. The cooperative noted some of the quarter's growth can be attributed to AD's newest division, AD Canada Plumbing & Heating. On a same-store basis, AD member sales grew 3%. "Business conditions continue to be challenging in many regions and segments, but there are strong spots, too," AD Chairman and CEO Bill Weisberg said. "And clearly, AD members in every division are taking share. With the guidance and support of our AD Board of Directors, we are utilizing our growing economies of scale to make strategic investments to help our members grow now and into the future. AD eCommerce Solutions, AD HR Services and AD Indirect Spend Services are three such areas of focus." Over the last 12 months, AD members across all divisions hired 1,267 new employees, opened 20 new locations and made five acquisitions. VIEGA TO MOVE U.S. HEADQUARTERS TO COLORADO Viega recently announced it will move its North American headquarters to Broomfield, Colo. The company said it will build a new headquarters and educational training facility in the city, with construction set to begin this summer. Relocation activities will begin immediately to temporary office space with the move completed by Dec. 31, 2017. Viega employs nearly 500 people in North America with a central manufacturing and distribution center in McPherson, Kan., as well as distribution centers in Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania, and another educational training facility in New Hampshire. The company was headquartered in Wichita, Kan., for 10 years and all current employees have the opportunity to move with the company. It will eventually employ about 200 people in Broomfield. Kansas, Viega stated, remains a significant part of the growth plans for the company through the manufacturing and distribution center in McPherson. "Moving to the greater Denver area ultimately makes our corporate staff more accessible to our customers and partners throughout the country," Viega CEO Dave Garlow said.
