Industry News Interline Brands: The Worst May Be Behind Us Jacksonville, FL-based Interline Brands reported that its 2009 sales were down11. 4% compared with 2008, gross profit decreased12. 4% and earnings per diluted share declined by 37% vs. the previous year. “We believe the worst may now be behind us, but visibility remains low and we anticipate continued variability within our endmarkets,” said Michael Grebe, chairman and CEO, in a statement. “Looking ahead to the first quarter of 2010, we expect the demand environment to remain similar to what we experienced over the past few months.” Sales for the fourth quarter of 2009 decreased 8.3% vs. the fourth quarter of2008. Two U.S. Pipe Plants To Start Up Boomerang Tube LLC said it has finalized funding to build a new manufacturing facility in Liberty, TX, to produce welded OCTG and line pipe for oil and gas customers in theU. S. and Canada. Access Industries, a New York-based industrial group, has committed $200 million for construction of the new facility, formerly owned by Allied Tube & Conduit, which will commence operations in August 2010. Gregg Eisenberg, former chairman/CEO of Maverick Tube Corp., heads Boomerang. Also, German manufacturer Wilh. Schulz GMBH plans to build a stainless steel pipe manufacturing plant in Tunica, MS. The $300 million facility, to be constructed over the next five years, will be its first manufacturing site in North America and will be known as Schulz Xtruded Products, or SXP. Established in 1945, the company specializes in serving the upstream and downstream oil and gas sectors and the nuclear and fossil fuel power plant industry. Schulz has successfully executed test production of clad pipes using a new process for producing seamless extruded metallurgical bonded pipe and has received its first orders. The company will produce these clad pipes exclusively in its new facility in Mississippi.
