RENISHAW VOID SCANNER CAVITY MONITORING SYSTEM The latest version of Void Scanner is fully developed, engineered and manufactured under the Renishaw brand. Following major investment in new production and servicing facilities at Renishaw’s York, UK, site, Void Scanner comes with world-class production values and global support to match. First launched in 2008, Void Scanner is a high-speed, low-cost CMS used in the mining and civil engineering industries to produce fast, accurate 3D laser scans of voids where access is limited, dangerous or prohibited. The product’s specialist ruggedized design helps Void Scanner operators to solve underground surveying challenges quickly and at low cost. Improvements to the Void Scanner system include better internal gearings, which has enhanced point cloud quality and surfacing, leading to improved data accuracy for better on-site decision making, despite challenging locations. Void Scanner’s Cavity Profiler – VS software has also been improved to offer greater functionality, including multi-station project capabilities. This means that the software will enable users to scan from multiple locations and view the resulting scans together in real time for a complete 3D representation of the site. A wide array of styli and ruby tips allows for probing of many applications. Stylus length is marked on the dial face to assist customers when ordering replacement styli. To improve readability, a glare-free, flat crystal face has been incorporated to allow for easy viewing of graduations. In addition, the font and dial face color were changed. It has been used for many years to measure micro-gears, gages, or micro-holes in fuel injectors and turbine blades. In these applications, diameters as small as 90 µm must be captured with tolerances in the single-digit micron range. Due to its very low contact force, the WFP is also suitable for calibrating optical measurements on workpieces with sensitive surfaces. By directly assessing the contact element, the WFP achieves probing uncertainties in the range of a few tenths of a micron. Bending of the stylus shaft has no effect on the measurement result. Resolution is in the nanometer range, and is ultimately dependent only on the optics used. In scanning mode, the Werth Fiber Probe captures a wide variety of contours with a large number of measurement points. The probe is continuously kept in motion by an oscillator (patent pending), in order to prevent stick-slip effects.
