Warren Alloy Sold To Allied Fitting LP Allied Fitting LP, a subsidiary of the Allied Group and Allied International, announced that it has acquired Warren Alloy Valve & Fitting Co., distributor of stainless and specialty metal products. Both Houston-based companies are industrial distributors of fi ttings and fl anges, with Allied focusing more on carbon steel products. Marc Herzstein, CEO of the Allied Group and president of Allied Fitting, said, “This acquisition strengthens the Group’s position in the market place and adds specialty metal products to our product offering. Warren has a long history in our industry and we intend to strengthen their reputation for breadth of inventory and customer service.” An eclectic group of distributors, reps and manufacturers attended an Executive Leadership Conference sponsored by the Midwest Distributors Association (MwDA) in Oak Brook, IL (suburban Chicago) on May 3-4. Despite a revenue decline for the third quarter ended April 30, Ferguson (Newport News, VA) saw trading profi t rise £7 million ahead of last year as a result of its improved cost base, according to UK-based parent Wolseley. Sales were down 10% for the third quarter, though the decline was restricted to 4% on a “like for like basis” — taking into account currency differences due to the weakening of the U.S. dollar over the period. Interline Brands (Jacksonville, FL), parent company of Barnett and other MRO distribution companies, reported sequential improvement in sales, from an 8.3% decline in the fourth quarter to a 4.5% decline in the fi rst quarter, to a slight (0.8%) increase in sales to date through April. In addition, Interline noted signifi cant gross margin expansion, on a yearover- year basis, in the fi rst quarter of 2010. Interline also announced plans to cut its nationwide network of 70 distribution centers down to 59, as well as plans to move to a new 275,000-sq.-ft. facility in its Jacksonville, FL, hometown from an older, less than 100,000-sq.-ft. facility this summer. The company expects to add 30 to 40 workers when it moves to the bigger facility. Affi liated Distributors (Wayne, PA) held its annual Spring Network Meeting for the Plumbing & PVF divisions in March.
