General Pipe Cleaners Model 88 saves Philadelphia graduation party The grease-choked 120-ft., main drain line of a large Philadelphia Chinese restaurant suddenly backed up and the stoppage threatened to derail a major graduation party with hundreds of guests. That’s when Just Drains LLC rode to rescue with a Model 88™ sectional drain cleaner from General Pipe Cleaners. “A competitor told the restaurant owners to close for repairs — and to cancel the event,” Just Drains owner Michael Williams recalls. “But I knew that closure — even a temporary one — might be disastrous to any business. And I wouldn’t accept that.” Just Drains always works hard to accommodate its customers. “Respecting the needs of our business customers is a big reason why we remain the number-one drain-cleaning company in Philadelphia!” Williams exclaims. EQUIPMENT AND EXPERTISE COUNT From experience, Williams also knew that grease clogs can “get as hard as chalk.” “That’s why you need a strong, reliable drain cleaner with lots of torque,” he says. “Our three Model 88s are perfect for cutting through those kinds of stoppages.” The Model 88 sports a powerful ¾-hp motor driving a 3.5 to 1 ratio gearhead — giving the machine plenty of power to handle the most difficult jobs. It also has a longer frame to protect the drive coupling and a larger front caster wheel for easier handling. “Companies like ours want a machine that’s going to tackle tough jobs — like roots,” Williams says. “The Model 88 is reliable, has plenty of torque and is very rugged.” PARTY ON! Just Drains’ Model 88 got the drain running free and clear quickly. And the graduation party went on — without a hitch. In fact, the restaurant owners were so pleased that they awarded Just Drains the maintenance contract for all 36 of their restaurants. “Satisfied customers — the best advertising any business can have!” Williams beams. EASY TO USE General’s machine is almost like running a lawn mower. Simply push an eight- or 10-ft., cable section into the line until you reach some resistance, then attach the rear cable coupling to the Model 88, stand behind it and turn it on. The cable feeds itself into the line. When a section has run into the drain, attach another one and keep going until the clog is cleared. This self-feeding feature also works to pull sections out of the line. “With a sectional machine, you bring what cable you need — not more than you need,” Williams says. The Model 88 spins eight- or 10-ft., quick-coupling cable sections at distances of 200 ft. or more. The cables self-feed while the operator stands safely behind the machine as cables screw into the line. For extra strength, General offers either chain or spring-center cables. The chain combines strength and fl exibility, while the inner spring can handle greater torque on long, difficult jobs. General’s patented no-wrench cable drive coupler enables the operator to attach cables faster. Standard Model 88 equipment includes a safety clutch, air-actuated power switch, ground fault circuit interrupter, folding handle, 10” wheels, cable feeding tool and more. The original The American Valve 4000 and 3700 series feature a PFA* fused ball that is more durable, less susceptible to accumulating buildup and longer lasting than an ordinary unprotected ball and replaces any traditional gate valve. With the help of Dupont®, we developed a process to impregnate PFA .008” into a solid-metal ball. An additional .004” is added electrostatically for smoothness. Since the PFA becomes part of the metal, it can’t fl ake, chip or peel off. The corrosion and chemical resistance of PFA* has been recognized around the world. With the introduction of this valve, we present an affordable (same price as most gate valves) ball valve that will outlast any unprotected metal valve in any application. The lubricity of our PFA* ball allows for lower torque ratings in any application, making it easier to turn and requires a smaller, less expensive actuator. We offer a complete line of actuators, gear operators and operating nuts for the 4000 series. The American Valve unique PFA* fused ball and lower operating torques make the 4000 series an effective alternative to cast iron gates, carbon steel ball valves and plug valves. The four-bolt actuator mounting pad is ideal for applications requiring automation and continues to be the leader in ball valve technology. *PFA is an ingredient commonly branded as Tefl on®. NightEye wireless-enabled products from Liberty Pumps Liberty Pumps of Bergen, N.Y., introduces NightEye® wirelessenabled products. The app and cloud-based system designed by Liberty Pumps allows internet connection of a pump via the home’s wireless router and provides alarm and other performance information to your mobile device. The NightEye system sends information via text, email and push notifications to up to four different email addresses or phone numbers — anywhere in the world. “We knew mobile notification through your personal smart device of a pump’s performance or other potential problem was the next logical step in the advancement of our products,” Liberty Pumps Vice President of Sales and Marketing Randall Waldron states. “With the new NightEye pump alarm, fl uid levels are monitored and customers alerted when levels rise — notifying them of a pump failure or possible power outage before costly repairs, health hazards and property losses can occur. “The system also includes a thermal sensor imbedded in the alarm unit that will notify the homeowner of a low basement temperature. The temperature warning threshold is a user-defined setting in the app (user selects the degree setting in Fahrenheit or Celsius) and is highly useful in northern climates where a furnace failure could cause frozen pipes and water damage.” The system is easy to use and set up — all through your portable device — with no need to log into a computer or website. There are no reoccurring subscription fees for use of the NightEye system. To connect a smartphone to the installed NightEye unit, the homeowner downloads the free NightEye app (available for iOS and Android operating systems) and then creates an account using an email address. The cloud-based system receives this data and sends a confirmation email to the homeowner containing a four-digit PIN. The homeowner keys this number int o the app for authentication purposes and then selects their wireless network and keys in their network password. To sync the smart device to the alarm module, the system uses a format called BlinkUp™, which is based on the use of light pulses. During setup, the app shows a countdown timer and asks the homeowner to hold their phone’s screen up to the LED screen on the NightEye® unit and to keep it there for 10 seconds. During that time, the app uses rapidly fl ashing light pulses to transmit the login and password to an optical sensor embedded in the NightEye unit. Another key feature of the NightEye app is that building owners can install and monitor multiple locations where NightEye alarm units are deployed — all through the same mobile interface. The ALM-EYE series alarms feature a new super-bright LED alarm ring, 9-volt battery backup and auxiliary contacts for optional connection to other home security systems. NightEye-connected products include the ALM-EYE series indoor pump alarm, StormCell® 12-volt battery backup pump systems and the SumpJet® water-powered backup pump. In addition to these products, Liberty recently introduced the following additional products available with the NightEye alarm — 404/405 drain pumps, PC-Series systems and Pro-Series packages with sewage or grinder pumps. Tailored vanity program Anew, tailored vanity program partnership between Kitchen & Bath Express and Kohler eliminates long lead times, making it easier for distributors to fulfill orders and keep the supply lines open to meet demand. The experts at Kitchen & Bath Express worked with Kohler to create the tailored vanities program. Two of Kohler’s most popular styles — the modern Jute and the transitional Poplin — are available in two finishes and four different sizes all paired with either a proprietary engineered stone or Kohler ceramic vanity top that features a rectangular, integrated sink and is predrilled for an 8-in. widespread faucet. Cabinets are fully customizable with a variety of optional drawer accessories. In-storage drawers, custom electrical outlet hardware and coordinating medicine cabinets help organize and optimize every inch of vanity space. Traditionally, ordering a Jute or Poplin vanity with a top was a custom affair. Shoppers chose their finish, top and sink combination and waited four to six weeks to receive their finished cabinet. With the tailored vanity program at Kitchen & Bath Express, vanities and tops are in stock and ready to ship. Most orders will ship the same day they’re received. Wholesale customers will appreciate how much thought went into creating the engineered stone vanity top. Crafted from mostly organic material, the top also is: • 100% solid, beautiful and easy to maintain; • Nonporous so it is stain, mold and mildew resistant; and • Sealing not required, making cleaning and maintenance easy. The vanity tops are so versatile, they fit both the Jute and the Poplin without sacrificing any style. Because both models are in stock and most ship the same day orders are received, long lead times are now a headache of the past. Crafted of hardwoods and finished to withstand the wettest room in the house, the Jute and the Poplin also feature plenty of storage, with enough space for everything shoppers need to put their best face forward every day. Doors and drawers are soft close, an amenity discerning designers and homeowners have come to expect. Customers who love the clean look of a fl oating vanity will love the Jute. It comes in either white or perfectly on-trend gray. For shoppers who prefer their vanities with legs, optional black iron vanity legs are available for all Jute cabinets. For shoppers who prefer a vanity that can satisfy both a rustic and transitional preference, the Poplin is the perfect piece. The wood-grain finish evokes a truly rustic tone while the white can be either traditional or transitional. Balancing comfort, efficiency and cost For more than 40 years, Electro Industries has provided economical, energy efficient solutions for residential and commercial heating and cooling applications along with innovative controls for heat pumps, plenum heaters and electric boilers that have set the industry standard. Our mission is to provide products that balance comfort, efficiency and cost. We also find it very important to listen to our wholesale HVAC partners, providing products and solutions that fill a need for their contractors and customers. One such product is our Packaged Make- Up Air. Increased awareness and enforcement of residential make-up air code requirements created the demand for a product that would be easy to install and maintain. This product had to meet the code requirements for bringing in filtered, tempered outside air for fresh air make-up and prevent negative pressures in the structure when large exhaust fans are in use. With models ranging from 50 CFM up to 1,200 CFM, this quickly became the perfect solution for residential and multi-family housing applications. On a recent project in Moorhead, Minn., the Stonecrest apartment complex had a requirement for make-up air. Understanding the many health benefits of continuous fresh air for occupants, 50 CFM of 50° F continuous air needed to be piped directly from the exterior of the building to each individual apartment above a false ceiling in the laundry closet. With an average mid-winter temperature around 20°, the air would have to be tempered and filtered. Each apartment already had a heating system, so only a minimal amount of Btus would be required to heat the incoming air to 50°. The Electro Industries’ 2 kW Packaged Make- Up Air unit was the perfect solution for the job. Standard features include our WarmFlo digital outlet temperature control with modulating element, motorized damper, electro static filter and continuous rated fan motor. On very cold days when the required heat rise is the greatest, the 2,000-watt element provides enough heat so the incoming air does not cool the space and maintains tenant comfort. On mild days when only a minimum temperature rise is needed, the element will modulate as low as 50 watts, and on days when the entering air is above 50°, the element remains off. Using our WarmFlo control improves efficiency and reduces annual operating costs. WarmFlo is so effective we incorporate it in most of our heating products, providing precise water temperature control in our electric and air source heat pump boilers as well as ideal air temperatures from plenum heaters and duct inserts. High levels of iron, scale buildup from hardness minerals, and even acidic properties can lead to well water damaging a home’s plumbing, fixtures and appliances. Without the proper water-treatment system, correcting the combination of these water problems could become costly if multiple pieces of equipment are installed. Realize the benefits of three different water-treatment systems in one unit with the Sanitizer Plus® system. The water-treatment system utilizes Crystal-Right™ media, a custom-engineered zeolite exclusive to Water- Right® products that removes hardness, iron and manganese, and neutralizes pH levels in a single pass. The water-treatment system ensures protection of household plumbing from staining, scale and mineral deposits, all while softening the water. The Sanitizer Plus® water-treatment system also features a chlorine generator that cleans the media bed with every regeneration. The patented technology produces chlorine to remove and prevent unpleasant tastes and smells from forming inside your water-treatment system. To reverse the issue, a salt (NaCl) solution enters the chlorine generator during the regeneration process while electric probes break apart the sodium and chloride molecule to create the free chlorine used to clean the media. The chlorine generator operates for only a small, regulated amount of time and the rest of the regeneration process continues as normal. The multi-purpose Crystal-Right media is engineered to be strong enough to withstand the harsh properties of chlorine. The media and technology duo results in a self-cleaning unit that leads to overall less maintenance. In conjunction with the chlorine generator, the system’s valve controllers are programmed with advanced electronics and cycle sequencing to help save on salt and water usage. Audible chirps cue owners for “low salt” conditions or needed service. The system also remembers all operating functions so it never loses programming due to power failures. And, by learning and remembering a home’s water consumption and usage patterns, the system adjusts its regeneration accordingly to always provide treated water to the home when it is needed. The Sanitizer Plus also is available as a “twin” unit that contains two tanks of Crystal-Right media. This ensures there is a constant supply of conditioned water available 24 hours per day, seven days per week. When one tank utilizes 100% of its capacity, the system automatically switches to the reserve tank, providing a seamless experience and eliminating the waste of unused capacity. The twin systems are ideal for residential homes that want continuous capabilities, or for larger facilities such as convenience stores, restaurants, 24- hour laundromats or boiler feeds. Water-Right’s Sanitizer Plus water-treatment system provides solutions to multiple well water issues — all in one unit. With its self-cleaning technology and multi-purpose Crystal-Right media, the Sanitizer Plus system efficiently provides the soft, quality water modern homes deserve. There’s a lot of debate around PEX production — with every manufacturer claiming its own method or “special formulation blend” is better than the rest. No doubt, it’s hard to come to a clear conclusion amid all of the resounding claims. Here’s what we know for certain. 1.MAKING THE GRADE ISN’T AS EASY AS A, B, C The first discussion point comes straight down to the quality of piping. PEXa, PEXb and PEXc are not ranking order. They are simply manufacturing designations. PEXa is Engel Method, PEXb is Silane Method, PEXc is Radiation Method. Contractors want to work with piping that is built to last, yet can bend in a tight radius. Zurn’s silane manufacturing method is the optimal balance of strength and fl exibility. Zurn’s patented variation produces a PEX pipe with the features that matter to contractors: highest temperature/pressure resistance, optimal fl exibility, highest chlorine rating, extended UV resistance, vibrant colors and the ability to work with both insert/crimp fittings, as well as F1960 expansion fittings. Staying on the topic of expansion fittings: 2.THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY THAN DRY FITTING Dry fitting doesn’t always seal the deal with the potential for missed connections, typically resulting in leaks. Zurn’s F1960 Expansion PEX System can’t be dry-fitted due to its shape memory installation. Available in both lead-free brass and high-strength corrosion-resistant polymer in sizes 1/2-in. through 2-in., the manufacturer offers a patent-pending line of expansion rings and a full line of tees, elbows, couplings, adapters, stub ells, test plugs, valves and multi-port fittings. Contractors work at different jobsites where wear and tear simply comes with the territory. Zurn Expansion PEX is third-party certified to perform up to the strictest requirements. And since the system is manufactured to the ASTM F1960 standard, your current F1960 expansion tool is all you’ll need. Now let’s not forget about crimp fittings. 3.A SMART CHOICE MEANS YOU’RE ACTUALLY MAKING A CHOICE Residential contractors know what they like to use and stick with it. Whether it’s highly engineered polymer or corrosion-resistant lead-free brass, Zurn is the largest provider of crimp fittings to residential builders in the U.S. On top of the widest range of crimp fittings, the manufacturer offers three different clamp fittings that are proven, patented and stay in place. Just like the rest of Zurn’s PEX products, they adhere to the highest quality and standards. 4.JUST GIVE ME A SINGLE PROVIDER FOR ALL PEX PRODUCTS With the addition of Zurn F1960 Expansion PEX System, Zurn is your “guy” when it comes to all commercial and residential PEX needs. Both the crimp and expansion fittings work with the manufacturer’s PEX piping – adding up to two solutions for one pipe. The complete line of complementary PEX products are all backed by an industry-leading 25- year warranty, third-party testing and certifications, and nearly 40 years of fl exible piping experience. If you’re looking for a PEX expert from start to the fittings, trust in the Zurn name. The DD Butterfly Valve from Milwaukee Valve is the end of the line… and it’s just the beginning. The lug butterfl y product offering from Milwaukee Valve is designed to provide dead-end service, regardless of the valve’s orientation and is available on 2” through 24” cast or ductile iron valves with EPDM and Buna liners. But unlike dead-end butterfl y valves available from other manufacturers, Milwaukee Valve’s Double Dead-End butterfl y valves also are field-repairable to reduce overall cost of ownership. So when specs call for dead-end service and field repairability, you now have a clear choice without concern about valve orientation. Milwaukee Valve is your single source for butterfl y valves. With a full range of valves from 2ʺ to 48,ʺ this expansive lineup includes: • Lug and wafer butterfl y valves in 2” – 48”; • Dead-end lug butterfl y valves in 2” to 24”; and • High-performance butterfl y valves in 2 1/2” to 24”. Applications for dead-end service typically involve isolating equipment for service, replacement or expansion. Typical uses include power plants, industrial and municipal water treatment, swimming pools and water parks, potable water treatment, and waste water systems in industries such as chemical processing and chemical distribution. With a Double Dead-End butterfl y, a piping system can be shut down to address immediate needs without having to depressurize the entire system. All Milwaukee Valve butterfl y valves combine 200 psi performance with a relatively low turning torque. The secret is a design that matches a specially shaped disc edge with a unique elastomer contour. The result is a low-friction seal that operates easier and lasts longer. In addition to the special edge, the disc is streamlined to provide maximum fl ow. Disc drive is engagement with the squared top stem. This design eliminates bolting through the stem (potential leak paths), and allows the disc to “fl oat” and center itself in the liner. Milwaukee Valve also offers a line of high-performance butterfl y valves that allow you to turn high-pressure applications into low-risk decisions. These valves are designed for the elevated temperature and pressure requirements found in rigorous commercial and industrial applications. With a machined seat containing multiple concentric sealing edges, highperformance butterfl y valves deliver bi-directional, no-leak shutoff. The valve seat’s “L” design clamps between the body and retaining ring, capturing the seat’s “short leg” in the retaining ring. This redundant seal prevents the seat from being drawn into the fl ow stream, especially under high-fl ow velocities. For complete application coverage, these multiple-sealing edges also assure high-seat loading even at low pressures. To resist seat movement and assure long cycle life, the Milwaukee Valve seat design features a stainless steel spring to increase seat load and force the seat to return to its start position when the disc is opened.
