BUSINESS AND TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS FOR COLD CHAIN PROFESSIONALS

2010 - 2011 INTERNATIONAL REFRIGERATED TRANSPORTATION GUIDE

International Refrigerated Transportation Association

Dear reader:

As Chairman of the International Refrigerated Transportation Association (IRTA), and president of Hanson Logistics, I am proud to present Refrigerated & Frozen Foods Magazine’s guide to refrigerated transportation providers.

Transportation is a central component in the global cold chain, and the companies highlighted in this guide are IRTA members and leaders in third-party, refrigerated transportation. Within the pages of this guide you will find more than just outsourcing solutions, you will find business partners who care as much as you do.

Since 1994, IRTA and its members have been committed to serving the food industry through the safe transportation of perishable products so that your product retains integrity. But don’t be fooled, IRTA is much more than a trucking trade association. Rather, IRTA represents a balance of diverse member companies that share a desire to ensure a strong cold chain.

IRTA is the only association with a core international membership of companies involved in all major modes of the refrigerated transportation industry, including: ports, trucking, warehousing and logistics, marine shipping, rail, and air. Membership also includes businesses that are engaged in refrigerated food logistics, such as attorneys, claim agents, carriers, equipment suppliers, receivers and consignees.

Over the years cold chain logistics has grown increasingly complex, but IRTA members and the companies in this guide are successfully navigating the landscape. These days refrigerated transportation is faced with a number of challenges, including regulatory issues, a reduction of fl eets and decrease in marketplace capacity, and different modes of available transportation. But IRTA has provided a forum for the exchange of information and ideas, and by keeping members informed, IRTA has acted as the prime resource for the providers who are tackling the issues of food safety and security.

Additionally, IRTA, through the Global Cold Chain Alliance, has recently partnered with the American Frozen Food Institute to host the annual Food Logistics Forum. This meeting provides participants with the information and networking resources they need to navigate the ever-changing logistics landscape. The Food Logistics Forum also presents a unique opportunity for participants to connect with current and potential customers in a broader gathering that includes food processors and manufacturers, third party warehousing and logistics providers, and rail, trucking, transportation intermediaries.

Ultimately, IRTA is critical to the industry because it is devoted to building a reliable cold chain on a worldwide basis through cultivating, fostering and developing commercial and trade relations between those engaged in all aspects of producing, importing, exporting, transporting, warehousing and otherwise dealing with commodities requiring refrigerated environments.

As more and more government regulations place pressure on our industry, IRTA will be there to provide information and solutions to members. If you’re interested in learning more about membership please contact IRTA’s membership development manager, James Rogers, at jrogers@gcca.org or + 1 703 373 4300.

I encourage you to experience the power of outsourcing and optimizing your supply chains with Refrigerated & Frozen Foods’ directory of refrigerated transportation providers.

Sincerely, Andrew B. Janson
