When evaluating calibration management software, it’s important to be well-versed with your company’s internal and external requirements and processes, such as ISO/TS Quality Standards, FDA regulations, 21 CFR Part 11, as well as specific industry requirements and your customers’ requirements. To help you choose the right calibration management software solution, start by answering these basic questions: 1. What benefits and features do you need the solution to provide in addition to the requirements demanded by customers and/or industry standards? 2. Does the software need to integrate with existing company software systems or meet other requirements set by your IT department? 3. Does the solution provide options for live product support and training for a variety of user types and skill sets such as managers, engineers and technicians? 4. Will the solution allow for data import from your current system? A mid- to high-range software package will generally provide a solution focused on continuous adherence to common industry standards as well as scalability, deep feature sets and reliable product support, training and services. Some low-end packages may provide standards compliance, but these vendors usually do not have the resources to keep up with new technologies or evolving standards. Generally, a low-end package provides a quick fix; it is not a worthwhile investment for a company seeking a long-term or large-scale deployment of a calibration management solution. Look for an established software provider that has a long-standing industry reputation and offers a calibration software solution as a primary product offering. This type of provider is typically selling solutions, not just software packages. Being genuinely interested in a good fit and a long-term relationship, a solutions-minded software provider will be knowledgeable about your industry, will be interested in your success with the product and will offer continued support and training, ensuring successful implementation and utilization of their calibration management software.
