(Milwaukee). Financial Reports ■ LSB Industries Inc. (Oklahoma City) had net sales in 2010 of $609.9 million, a 14.7 percent increase compared to 2009, and diluted earnings per common share were $1.32 compared to 96 cents in 2009. ■ Grundfos’ (Bjerringbro, Denmark) 2010 sales reached $3.7 billion with profit before tax reaching $455 million, com-pared to $3.2 billion and $169.7 million respectively in 2009. n March 2010, Presi-dent Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) into law. Now, a little more than a year later, the health care law is beginning to be imple-mented although it is facing challenges in the court and in Congress. The NEWS recently asked HVAC contractors if the law has started to affect their businesses, and how they anticipate it will affect the cover-age and benefits they offer in the future. Currently, many contractors reported a lot of uncertainty about the law’s effects and concerns about the law’s impact on insurance costs. They also expressed a range of opinions about the law’s future, with many expressing support for complete or partial repeal. Ductless manufacturers say there are many reasons for this growth, but one of the main rea-A sons is simply heightened awareness of the technology. Increasing energy prices are also making ductless technology more popular, especially since ductless offers zoning capabilities to reduce energy usage. DUCTLESS GROWTH The inroads made by ductless equipment into the U.S. market are even more impres-sive when compared to the length of time the units have been available here. In fact, Marc Bellanger, marketing manager, Daikin AC, pointed out, Daikin was only introduced to the U.S. market in 2005 and “has enjoyed tremendous growth” since then. He said that some of the reasons behind the grow-ing popularity of ductless include a greater appreciation for zoning and a greater desire for better temperature control, especially in bonus rooms.
